In 1986, she rejected the sexual advances of her landlord. He hired two friends to attack her. They slashed her face with a razor blade. The assault left three wounds that required surgery and over 100 stitches, resulting in permanent scars and the end of Hanson’s modeling career. The landlord and his two friends were charged with first-degree assault. “He targeted my face, because I was a model,” she said. “That was his revenge for not being able to control me.”

"Esse est percipi" or "To be is to be perceived" is a term used by George Berkeley, an 18th-century Anglo-Irish philosopher. His theory denies the existence of material substance and instead contends that familiar objects like tables and chairs are only ideas in the minds of perceivers, and as a result cannot exist without being perceived.

The Islamic term “Mahdi” does not occur in the Quran. It is derived from the Arabic root h-d-y, commonly used to mean "divine guidance". The Mahdi will appear before the Day of Judgment and rid the world of evil. In most traditions, the Mahdi will arrive with 'Isa (Jesus) to defeat "the false Messiah", or Antichrist. Although the concept of a Mahdi is not an essential doctrine in Sunni Islam, it is popular among both Sunni and Shia Muslims. Both agree that he will rule over Muslims and establish justice.
The person depicted in the “Mahdi” is Ahmadreza Djalali, a Swedish-Iranian academic and researcher who was sentenced to death for allegedly spying in Iran. He is a medical doctor and lecturer at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He was also a visiting professor at Belgium's Free University of Brussels. He was arrested while visiting Iran in April 2016 and convicted for spying for the Mossad. He had earlier confessed on Iranian State Television for spying on behalf of Israel. Amnesty International stated however that the confession was taken under duress. Intense torture techniques were applied to make him admit false confessions. Iran confirmed the death penalty against Ahmadreza Djalali in early February 2018.

A “Dissipative Structure” is characterized by the spontaneous appearance of symmetry breaking the formation of complex, sometimes chaotic, structures. It is related to chaos theory (a bundle of smoke for example). The term dissipative structure was invented by Russian-Belgian physical chemist Ilya Prigogine, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1977 for his pioneering work on these structures.
